People with COVID-19 have experienced a wide range of symptoms reported – they are varying between mild symptoms and severe illness. Doctors say that these symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Accordingly, people with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
- Headache
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Muscle or body aches
- Sore Throat
- New loss of taste or smell
- Diarrhea
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
However, symptoms are updated and we may hear more of them all the time. Besides, older people who have severe underlying medical conditions like diabetes, heart or lung disease seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19.
When to Seek Emergency Medical Care
You must take care and look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If someone is showing any of these signs, then you have to call emergency medical care immediately:
- Inability to wake or stay awake
- Trouble breathing
- Persistent pain or pressure in your chest
- Pale, gray, or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds, depending on skin tone
This list is not all possible symptoms. But, you should call your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.
Difference between COVID-19 & Flu
Actually, Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19 are contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. COVID-19 is an infection of a new coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2), and flu is an infection resulting from Influenza Viruses.
In addition, COVID-19 seems to spread more easily than Influenza and causes more serious illnesses in some cases. It can also take longer before people show symptoms so people can be contagious for longer.
As some of the symptoms of flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be too hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. In this case, testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis.
